i have a chipped ps2 fat (3004r) (don't know what chip, i know it is chipped). the lens most probably is dead. it didn't boot up any disc (original or copy), tried to run the diagnostic, cleaned the lens, turned the white scroll wheel (left and right), adjusted the little screw near the dvd lens. nothing helped. it only spins up in 4 short bursts and than the disk dies out (stops spinning completely) and that is it.
so thinking the lens was completely worn down, i disassembled the whole thing, cleaned it up. took a good look at the dvd unit and found out there was nothing i could do. so i put it back together, and booted up a copied game. and you know what, it booted up partly.
but i retried it again (with another disk), and now the lens comes on and the disk spins up completely and it keeps spinning/turning (the disk i mean), but no luck further on.
here is my question:
is there a way to make an usb exploit to boot from usb stick directly? i do not know if the mod chip in my ps2 allows usb booting? if so, than i can at least play games from the network adapter i just bought (i only have the ps2 (original) network disc, i was hoping that would be enough).
so is it possible to make an usb exploit, one that my chipped ps2 will let me boot off without using the dvd drive?
a related question, i also have a 5004 ps2 fat, can't i just replace the 3004r unit's dvd drive with the one from me newer 5004?
or maybe someone has a suggestion for another solution?
all is much appreciated
a little update, after some fiddling with the lens screws and scroll wheels, i got a few games (on platinum dvd-r 8 speed dvd's) running. so i am able to boot from cd or dvd for the purpose of preparing a usb exploit using my own chipped ps2.
