OK, so I have heard that it is a major improvement from a non-HD tv to a HD tv. I have a 2005 TV in my room (no HD) and i was wondering if those HD Converters (the TV switch of 2009) will let me play my xbox 360 in Hi-Def? Or if there is a way to play HD on a non-HD TV.

You will need a HD TV to play HD games. There is no way to play HD on a non-HD TV.

Then why is the govern. giving out $40 coupons for "HD converters" that converts your TV to HD?

That's to convert the digital signal that will be broadcast by TV stations back into an analog signal for you. And you TV appears to have only RCA inputs which are far from HD.

i am sorry, i hate being offensive, but is this a joke? sir the entire nation is under going that change in 2009 and you havnt even read about it to understand why they are doing what they are doing? I can already see it now, our country is going to freak out all at once because no one knows why in the hell their tv dosn't work. @cmertin you do not need a converter for that tv, or probablly any other tv you own. if you have satalite or cable right now as a service provider you have nothing to worry about. however by the tone of my message one would only think that after reading this you should probablly go and read about what is happening, because i am pretty sure you dont fully grasp what is happening here.

LOL homesick.

I pretty much laugh every time i see those "scare tactic" commercials on TV. I have not seen a decent TV that has been made in the last 10 years that does not have a coaxial cable input. And if you do happen to have one then i think it is time for a new TV anyway. I mean who really uses an antenna in this day and age?

They do these commercials to scare people who are not well informed into thinking that their TV will somehow not work after the change. Those people then spend their money on a digital converter box which they do not even know that they do not need.

Now on the the actual question. With the above TV you will NEVER have true HD picture. You can use the component cables (red/blue/green) and that will give you the best signal you are going to get on that TV most likely. Look at your TV's manual and see what the maximum resolution you can get is. The bottom of the food chain as far as HD signal is concerned is 720P. If you can get that then you should have a decent picture. if your only able to get 480 then your out of luck, not even an upconverter will help you then.

If you truly want an HD picture then you need to invest in a TV that has (at the least) 1080i, or 1080P if you can afford it. Also you should have an Xbox that runs using an HDMI cable. This will be the best picture you will get out of a 360, and trust me the difference between what your picture looks like in non-HD and what it looks like in HD are like night and day.

I play on an HDTV (56" DLP) and i had my router go out. So i had to move the 360 to my room onto a TV like yours (non-HD with component cables) and let me tell you it was excruciatingly painful. I could barely even read the names in the online lobby of the game i was playing. The picture is very grainy and unless i was FORCED to do it again i would never hook my Xbox 360 onto another non-HDTV again.
