Sup Guys! I just bought a psp with version 2.71. I've been reading the posts and I'm a little confused and I still don't know where to start modding my psp. Basically I want to have my PSP run emulators so I can play old console games at the same time I would also like to be able to play psp games from my memory stick. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

O man again, when will this type of questions end?
Look the most popular method to get custom firmware on your psp(so then you will be able to play iso/cso and emulators) is pandora battery and magic memory stick.

If you have a friend or you know person who have cfw(custom firmware) on psp use this guide:
HERE
So in this guide you will be creating pandora battery and magic memory stick on other psp that has cfw instaled on it; and then when that is created you will use pandora battery and mms on your psp that has offical firmare and it will install 3.71m33 cfw....
Most ppl in this guide have a problem on creating magic memory stick, and the result is that they have Vista...So you need to have xp windows on your computer.
BUT in case that will still not working try here:
THIS
In this guide you will be also creating a pandora battery and magic memory stick, but it will instal 1.50v.
So when you get 1.50v you are then able to instal cfw.Use THIS GUIDE to upgrade from 1.50v to 3.52m33-4 and then to 3.71m33-4/3.80m33-5/3.90m33-3 your choice, but i don´t suggest you to upgrade to 4.01m33 coz many thing and stuff are not yet for 4.01m33-2...

In case you don´t know anybody that have psp with cfw try here:
THIS GUIDE
Here you will need to buy a datel tool battery(do a search in ebay or find some website) or to hardmod the battery(but that is very dangerous)...

If you don´t want to buy a datel tool battery or to hardmod the battery there are still 2 ways...

you can use the lumines downgrader ,this downgrader requires the original umd of the unpatched version of lumines (ULES00043 or ULUS10002)
to use this downgrader you need first to upgrade to 3.50v
Download 3.50v HERE
Then Use THIS GUIDE
So lumines will downgrade from 3.50v to 1.50v and then you can use THIS GUIDE to upgrade to custom firmware.

Then you can also upgrade your psp to 3.03v, but after that you need to have the original umd of GTA to downgrade to 1.50v
you probably can only find the game on ebay
Downlaod 3.03v HERE

When you will downgrade to 1.50v use THIS GUIDEto upgrade to cfw(custom firmware)...

You have lucky..:)
I hope i help you and it will work

There is no need to use the Lumines or GTA exploit downgrader.

You can use the 2.71 downgrader and that does not require a game at all.

If you plan on using a Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery then follow one of the guides taddy1449 has linked above.

If you want to use a downgrader to downgrade to 1.50 then follow the steps below.

First off you need to find out what type of motherboard you have. You can do this by following this image.

If there is text on the motherboard then you have a (TA-82 or TA-86) Motherboard. You will want to use this guide HERE and follow the section under "-2.71 PSP (TA-82 or TA-86)".

If there is no text on the motherboard then follow this guide HERE under the section of "-2.71 PSP".

Remember you do not have to have Lumines or GTA for this downgrader to work.

After you have downgraded the PSP to 1.50 use this guide HERE to upgrade to the custom firmware of your choice.
