Are all SD cards created equal? I have googled this to death and they all seem the same to me. Except when Future Shop and Best Buy have them on sale. It seems the Kingston 4G card is always $20.00 cheaper than the Panasonic 4G HD.

Some are high speed and some are not. Those that are, cost more.

For general use they are all the same. Transfer rate is quoted on the "nicer" cards that are quicker. I would like to buy a slightly faster card because I bought my camera on line in a bundle and the card is too slow to record the high quality video that my camera can take. Since I don't really plan to use the video feature much I haven't been too worried about it but it is something I plan on in the future. I asked around and most agreed that not only will a faster card allow me to take video I will get slightly quicker times between pics.

Other than speed quality seems to be great with all cards since I have 4 different brands and no complaints about any of them besides speed.
P.S. I have a Kingston that does the video just fine but it is only a 1 gig vs. My 4 gig I normally carry in the camera.

I have a SDHC card, but it cannot be read by my all purpose card reader, but it can be read with the small card reader that came with the card.

I'm asumming its because it is an HC card. The card and reader are Sandisk.

You are correct. An HC capable reader must be used, or one must transfer the photos from the camera via USB cable.

Thanks everybody. I did alot of research on this and they are all about the same. I guess you just pay more for a "brand name." As with the readers it depends on how new your card reader is. My computer will only read my 1G card which is also HC. Whereas my friends computer will read my 2G HC card. Its how new the firmware is for the card reader.

You know it really depends.


I myself have used low speed sd cards and these higher end cards with no real different in performance it really depends on 2 things really.

Usb 1.1 or usb 2.0

If your computer is older and doesn't have usb 2.0 i would recommend a slower card the faster ones are just going to give you problems
