how to test BA LA chips?

how do i know if i have a blown BA or LA chip? i have a laser that is tryiing to focus by flexing in and out but its not lighting up. it will actually start to smoke if i leave it tryiing to focus.

then you fried the system by the sounds of it, either replace the entire system or your gonna have to search for a new chip assembly kit, which will have to include the laser, downside is that If you mount the laser even 1/1600th of an milimeter wrong, you will torch what ever game you put in. My suggestion is find a local (small time) computer store, usally they have some 20 to 30 yrd old working there specifically there to help kids MOD their systems. He will be able to help you out every step of the way. He has all the tools that most people either dont have or cant afford. Thats why they hire those guys.
