ok i just finished replacing my lens. I had the famous no disc recognized when inserted problem. So i bought a tray/lens from programmer.cc and i replaced it. now when i insert ps3 discs it spins them and reads the disc's and the little swirly thing in the top right goes away after about 10 or 15 sec. but the XMB never displays the game. with dvd-r's the ps3 wont even spin them and the swirl never goes away. any idea's? i want to check everything so any suggestion welcome. thanks people.

ok for anyones futer refrence...

i figured out what the issue was. Like i stated, the ps3 would spin all the media inserted after i replaced the tray/lens combo. but when i put the drive back together i didnt remember where the white plastic circle with a magnet inside of it went and i ended up putting it on the inside of the dive not on the outside like its supposed to. so, long story short it wouldnt play it for some reason. anyways dont forget that plastic piece that attaches to the drive motor from the OUTSIDE of the plastic drive through the open circle. whos the goose...

thanks for the suggestions btw

I think he was being sarcastic ^.^'

Sorry we couldnt have been of more assistance but not many of us have had a chance to monkey with the internals of the ps3.

hahaha i think grkblood was also being srcastic... BUT just because the sony god hates me, its not fixed... after i replaced the lens it now only plays games. not dvdr, dvd-dl, cd's... I hate this stupid thing... i bought a mgs4 80gig but i want to fix this 60 gig so i can sell it.

so again, any input? i remember reading the dvds and BD use different lasers, but does the cd and dvd laser have a seperate controller that could have been fried?

nah, i wasnt. its nice that when people figure stuff out on there own they share how they fixed it. stops future regurgitated posts from popping up if the same problem occurs. I figured I'd say thanks since he's a noob and that's where most of the stuff I just mentioned comes from.

Yeah it would be a problem with the red laser, I've never seen the internals of the drive so I wouldn't know where to start on what could be wrong. If the red laser is on a different track I'd check there first to see if its not tracking properly. Possible just cleaning the red laser with a q-tip and some rubbing alchohol might be enough.

ok so i cracked the case open again for the 4th time, man this is getting annoying fast. i watched the laser when i put a store copy of oceans 13 dvd in, and it shoots the blu ray laser, looks purple, and nothing. then it shoots the red laser, and nothing happens. but when i put in GTA4 it shoots the blu ray laser, purple, and it spins the disc and then reads the disc and it comes up in the xmb. this ring a bell for anyone? i thought the red an blu lenses would be contained in the same laser... i replaced the kem400aaa and bought it from programmer.cc. possibly a bad lens still? or would it be a part that i dont know about that handles non blu ray media?

thanks in advance
