Hi,
I have some downloaded movies that i want to compress using DVD shrink, the problem is that it will only let me shrink DVDs i have already.

I am using DVD shrink 3.2 and just need some pointers on how to do this. I basically have some films that the file size is around 800, 000kb and want to fit them on a normal 700mb/80min disc.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like you have AVI files. You can reencode them with AutoGK.

I basically have downloaded films on my PC that i want to put on a disc to watch on other peoples DVD player and had been told DVD shrink was the tool i needed?

The files are AVI files.

DVD Shrink will not/can not handle .avi files. You need an encoder such as DVD Flick (free) or ConvertXtoDVD($$$) to convert your avi into a DVD compliant format. Then use Imgburn to burn your project onto a DVD.
