Hi,

I have recently got a 360 of someone who had attempted to mod the GDR3120L rom 59DJ drive.
His system crashed whilst flashing it and rendered the drive non useable.

I have bought a Team Xecuter connectivity kit 2 and connected the drive to my sata card which is the SATAV6421 chipset.

I cannot get the drive to be seen in the device manager of windows and the drive will not eject either.

I have looked through tutorials and books and can't find anything that can assist. Its all getting a bit confusing

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If the person bricked the drive you gotta use an external programmer and desolder the TSOP chip to read the original firmware.The problem is if the drive is not functioning properly your not going to be able to read/write by using an executer connectivity kit.

If the dvd drive mobo is in good shape you could replace it into a new drive or if you have the dvd drive key then you can flash a new drive and have it work that way.If you buy a new dvd drive and try to place it into the system without the dvd drive key though meaning it doesn't match the motherboard it will end up as a dvd player and won't play any games.

That's cool. I still have the drive key. Luckily he backed it up before he tried to mod it.

I have tried all sorts to conenct it and i can get it into mode b with the connectivity kit but it think there is definately somethign wrong wth it as it doesn't appear under windows and won't eject the disc. When i plug it into the box and turn the xobox on i get a flashing power button with the lower right hand light flashing red.

Wether this means that it is a hardware fault with the drive i am not sure.

I got that same one red flashing light when I thought I bricked a Samsung. Maybe my fix for that will work with the hitachi but I doubt it.

Hook up another Hitachi drive, get into modeB and a drive letterin windows then hotswap the SATA cable to the bad 360 (you said you can still get it into modeB so do that first). See it that'll get it recognized.

Cool idea but unfortunately i don't have another drive. I only have the one that i bought that was in need of repair.

I have found a place called console werks that are going to take a look at it for me and give me a quote on repair. If they diagnose a problem and say its fixable i might just go for it. I have a burned out wii that i am going to send them too.

Maybe i should stop buying cheap burned out consoles! LOL
