I dont know which aspects of Nero you are after, but ImgBurn is free and does most of what Nero does...

I stopped using Nero on v6...

I found a way to lift the waveditor application from the installer and just use that as a stand alone.

Other than that I use ImgBurn (I'm starting to sound like I work for them or something...)

yea it seems like most people take different parts of free ware com-
bined them as one free software like application.to my mind i paid
for nero 6 AND 7 and id like to get my moneys worth.....

just because you paid for some bloated scamware doesn't mean it is any good for what you are doing..

dbpoweramp for ripping and burning from analog sources, and audacity for editing and cleaning up the wave files, you can record with it too if you want..

No.. I just use the line in (which on my machine runs on pcm3 for some reason)and save as .flac

Audacity has some very good plugins to deal with the "frying eggs" and other funky pops and clicks from old vinyl. I wasn't keen on it a few versions back, but the devs really do listen to suggestions and make features users want. Last project was making an audio cd from a concert dvd.. so many things are possible.

I then make an iso, or burn with k3b (linux only.. sorry) straight from those flac to standard audio cd with no gaps.. the lp has gaps, I just pick a spot to break about half way between songs.. (lots of my work is converting old vinyl lp's to cd for paying customers.. so it's more of an EAC process than ripping)

Give it a try.. just stick side 1 on and record straight through to the end... use a line/tape out rather than a headphone socket for your source because the 1v p-p signal is perfectly matched to the line in on your soundcard.. hunt about for the signal in your volume control channels.. probably line in.. you may need to disable any pcm channels or you can get a feedback loop.. save as wav or flac then edit away.. muahahaha.. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/documentation
great documentation with open source applications XD

dbpoweramp has the same sort of features and if you aren't bothered about mp3 capabilities it's freeware which handles all audio file formats, and has it's own burning engine as well. It may do what you want on it's own but I haven't used it in an age (no linux version)
I'm not sure about imgburn for audio cd creation.. I left windows well before that came about ;)

hi
nero 6 works good for me however one little problem exists and that
is when i tey to download songs from a web site and the timing of the
song is say 3 minates then i use the express to actually burn the cd
the express adds 2 minates to the song making it 5 minates.the express
adding thoes extra minates is the issue.most of the time it doesnet hap-
-pen and i can fix it with nero but if im doing alot of downloading it
can be a pain.i contacted the merry folks at nero about it and am awa-
ting their responce......

don't hold your breath.. you run nero6.. it may have escaped your attention that they are on 8 now, and will just want you to buy that.

http://www.burn4free.com/

a free cd/dvd burning tool.. I haven't used it because I don't believe closed source software has a place in my world or on my computer if at all avoidable.

Try the freeware tools.. there are lots and lots of them just waiting for you out there.

Nero7 probably crashes because you have nero 6 installed.. you don't just need to uninstall it, you need to run the nero clean tool to get rid of it completely... google will reveal that tool ;)
