I have a Wiikey and I don't remember what I did, but now I get this error when trying to access Wii Settings:

Is there a way to fix this? I want to enter my wifi settings. Thank you.

You have semi-bricked your Wii. Have you updated from a different region game lately?

I probably did without knowing... anything I can do now to fix it?

Try using the downgrader. Or pop in Mario Kart(in the same region as your wii). It is asks you for an update, take it. If not wait for a new game that contains an update.

The easiest way is to update with a more recent update from a game of the proper region. I dont know what game you bricked with but Mario Kart has firmware 3.2
I dont know of any games with 3.3 yet, but there should be one by now.

My Wii is English-based... does that mean it's NTSC? (region = either NTSC or PAL right?)

Well what do you mean by English-based? You mean in the UK? Then your Wii would be PAL.

I *think* it's a North American-version... how can I determine the region correctly?

Well where did you bought it from? Where are you located?

I am in Hong Kong. Here you can either get the Japanese model or an English language based Wii... both are imports I believe.
I opted to go for English since I can't read Japanese.

Look at your serial number.
PAL
LEH = Europe
LAH = Australia
NTSC(U) USA
LU
NTSC(J) Japan
LJH

Thanks very much, my Wii's serial # starts with LU... so it appears to be a NTSC.
That mean I inserted a PAL disc and upgraded the firmware? That's why it's "semi-bricked"...

Friend of mine who had the same message was able to downgrade his firmware. However his Internet settings already worked prior to this error.
I understand the downgrader needs to connect online to download the firmware? Does this mean I can't downgrade, since I can't even enter my Wifi settings?
PS. Is there a way to determine my Wii's firmware version?

I think your out of luck, if your wii wasn't already connected to the internet. What game did you use to brick yourself.

Crap, really? That sucks.
I can't remember, but it should be either Mario Kart or Super Mario Galaxy...

Give it a shot. I unbricked myself by using those types of discs.

I downloaded the iso only to find that my Thinkpad's DVD drive is broken... won't read any discs except for Audio CDs... grrr. Once I get a replacement drive I'll try again..

thanks for this info! that sounds like the next step to try here... borrowed copies of Okami and Wiifit (USA ver) from a friend and both games loaded w/o asking for firmware update, so I guess mine must be newer.

I would use the fix-disc.
HERE is the link from bushing. This is a repacked NTSC(U) version from Bushing and the version I have used for others that have semi-bricked their Wii.

Yes! After getting my DVD burner replaced (for free thanks to Lenovo warranty), I burned the v289-repad.iso file, ran the update and I am now back to 3.2U. I can finally get into Wii Settings.
Thanks to everyone who's helped!
