I converted an avi file to dvd format recently. I copied the files to DVD media using IMGBurn. It plays on computers and most set top boxes fine. The problem comes when trying to play it on a Lite-On LVW5005-XS DVD recorder set top box. It just won't play. Is there anything special about this unit that prevents it from playing when it will play on a Sony or Panasonic?

When you created the DVD, did you specify that the video standard was to be NTSC (if you live in North America) or PAL (EU and Australasia).
Many converters are set on 'automatic' and the source video's standard is replicated on the output.

I'm certain I used NTSC. I don't think it would have played on the Sony, Panasonic or PC DVD players if I had used PAL. The problem is that the Lite-On won't play it.

I used Tayo Yuden DVD-R blanks. The Lite-On will play other DVDs using the same media though. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that the original file was an AVI that was converted to DVD. The Lite-On doesn't seem to like it.

Try opening it in DVDShrink as a test. Shrink is pretty particular about structure.
