Hello everybody,
I've been using ConvertXtoDVD for quite a while now and never have I had a problem with it before until recently. The last 2 times I used it, it shut off my computer and I can't figure out why. There's no error messages, no blue screen. The light on my CPU is still on and it sounds like it's running but there's no picture on the screen. When I go to manually restart it, it says the computer was restarted after a fatal error. Any ideas on why this could be happening? The program runs at first but when it gets close to burning it's all over. Could it be the burner as well?

PC: Windows XP Home SP2, 1GB RAM
ConvertXtoDVD 2.2.2.256 (I like this old version :-))
DVD Burner: LG super multi RW DVD+R

TIA!

I just remembered that I burned 2 music discs with Nero yesterday, so it can't be the burner, right?

Check to see that the CPU is not overheating during the
encoding. That can cause a shutdown.

Thanks for replying! The room here is pretty hot during the day, we only have swamp coolers and the upstairs doesn't really get all that cool but it was the only place in the house to put my office in.
So that would mean get a new fan if that's it? Or something more drastic....hope not!

If I were you, I'd start off with a can of compressed air.
Open the box and check for excessive dust. Blow it all out.

Check for crud in the grills, the fans,
and CPU fan/heatsink.

If it still does it after you cleaned it out,
install a monitoring utility (something like the Everest home edition
will do) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
and review the temps in real time as you do the encdode.

Take off a side panel and train a small desk top fan into your rig and see if it helps.

Thanks for trying to help. Since I posted my message I can't go online with the desktop anymore. It keeps saying there's no connectivity but the modem is ok cause I'm using it right now with the laptop...*sigh*...I'm taking it in to the shop. Thank you though!
