Going to custom firmware from official firmware 4.01 slim

Hi,

I've been trying to install custom firmware on my PSP Slim with official firmware 4.01 but have so far been unsuccessful.
I think I have done everything correctly in terms of making the magic memory stick and battery but still get a blank screen and green power LED when I put in the memory card and battery - no memory stick/wifi led either.
The usual response to this seems to be to re make the battery and memory stick, which I have done using a few different guides/memory sticks/computers which has not made any difference.
I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong as all the magic memory sticks I've made have worked on a phat PSP but not with this slim.
Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working, does this method no longer work with OFW 4.01?

your slim is probably the new ta-088 that has the new cpu that blocks all unofficial ipl.
