Well ill have to start form the beginning on this on. So suddenly one day i get the 21 error, keep in mind that i did nothing to my xbox to warrant this no modding or nothing. So i unlocked the hard drive using a program and then proceeded to format and reinstall all the necessary data. now that I finished that I plugged in my hdd and got the number 5 error now this means i need to lock my hdd, the problem here is that I dont have a mod chip or anything i dont know how to lock it otherwise, because every method ive seen requires you to have a mod chip. So does anyone know of a solution to my problem?
Here is a easy tutorial you can follow, it involves hotswapping the drive and plugging it into your computer and using a special version of linux/dos to lock/unlock the drive...

Simply put i helped someone 2 weeks ago with the same exact problem, i had him build an eeprom reader and now he has a working xbox.

when using a hotswap procedure your xbox has to be able to lock and unlock the hard drive. First you unlock your hard drive when the xbox starts up and induce the error 12. You cannot do this since your hard drive could not be unlocked. Now you unlocked your hard drive using a different program (probably a forceunlocker) and now you want to relock your hard drive. The only way to do this is to make a eeprom reader, and use the eeprom to lock your hard drive.
If your xbox wasn't locking and unlocking the hard drive you can not hotswap. I didn't realize you were in the wrong section. A hotswap will fix all software errors. Locking and unlocking is not one of those errors.

I know for a fact the eeprom reader will work and you'll have a working xbox shortly after you lock your hd with your eeprom. There are a lot of us that have made the eeprom reader so if you get stuck or have any problems let us know.
I understand ive already done a hotswap doesn't matter I still get the 21 error, what im asking is do i have the wrong dash or something. because correct me if im wrong but the 21 error relates to missing dash files.
Im sorry , i need to be more detailed. Ive done the hot swap, and relocked it. Now i have the 21 error again. what i think im going to do is just copy the c drive files from my friend hd and just relock mine and hopefully everything will work alright.
