i just got a friend of mines (birthday) a slim psp (the kratos edition one) yeah i ebayed i too nonetheless it has the official 3.90 on it as of now and she can mod it later if she wants.
now is there a way to find out if this one has the ta-088 motherboard or not?

You probably do have the TA-088 motherboard, but that doesn't mean it can't have CFW put on. It is only v3 of the TA-088 motherboard that has a problem, and that comes with OFW 4.01 installed.

As you have OFW 3.90 then that indicates it's an earlier version, in which case you should be fine.
