First of all, you already have custom firmware - that's what M33 firmware is. So yes, you should be able to play cso games on it.
Second; which folder are you trying to put the game in? If you haven't already, try putting it in the "ISO" folder on your memory stick.

Do you have the rest of the folders on the PSP? E.g. PSP\GAME, PSP\GAME371, etc. I don't think cso/iso files show up without having those folders.

Hmm. I'm not sure what could be wrong - Have you tried backing up all of your PSP's memory stick content and going into System settings -> Format memory stick in the PSP, and then placing the cso in the ISO folder?
That's just about the only thing I can suggest; I've never had this problem before.

I do not believe so - Does it also say "Please Wait..." when you press O to go back to the XMB?

Hmm ok. I'm not sure what your friend was talking about - you seem to have everything necessary.

Hey wait a min, just do wat he said, format d memory stick and backup your data from it and try if it helps, and try before that to convert your CSo to ISO and see if that helps, and maybe the game name is too long, try to rename it into the smaller one.For the beginning like "1.cso"

Yeah, great that you got it sorted, the devhook, u don't need it it's a homebrew that can load ISO's and CSO's for 1.5 firmware.
