Hey all.....first off thanks in advance for any help.

I have read around a little bit but I am so n00b to this stuff I think I have got myself more lost than when i started.

I got my PSP a couple years ago but havent turned it on for about a year. I have decided to play around with the homebrew stuff a little but im not sure where to start.

I checked my system info and it says ver. 2.71 but there is no "M" or anything else. Can this version be modded? If so, can I do it just using software or do I need one of those Pandora batteries??

I dont mind reading and figuring stuff out on my own if someone can just point me to the right place.

Oh I also have the IC6001 on my mobo, but I dont see any numbers or anything on the other side, if that helps at all.

yea u can mod...I assume you want to mod n upgrade to the latest custom firmware...

Your best bet would be:
1)Downgrade to 1.50 using a downgrader program or a pandora battery + magick memory stick
2)upgrade to 3.52m33 then to 3.52m33-4
3)Upgrade to 3.90m33
4)Install 1.50 kernel addon for 3.90m33
5)Upgrade to 4.01m33 then to 4.01m33-2
6)install 1.50kernel addon for 4.01m33

***here is some terminology you might want to know***

ofw - official firmware (made by sony. Right now you are in ofw 2.71)

cfw - custom firmware (made by hackers. Latest underdogs are the m33 team. A well known programmer from m33 team is Dark_Alex. His website is here.)

homebrew - software such as emulators, games, loaders, exploits developed for haxed psps'

bricked psp - psp that is no longer functioning normally. there are 2 types of bricks 1)semi-brick and 2)full brick.

latest ofw - 4.05

latest cfw - 4.01m33-2

pandora battery - haxed battery that is used in conjunction with a magic memory stick to unbrick/downgrade a psp.

magic memory stick (aka MMS) - used in conjunction with a pandora battery to unbrick/downgrade a psp.
