Hi All,

A newbie here who's a little confused..Firstly I have a Pioneer burner, Celeron 2Ghz overclocked to 2.6..512 mb mem.....I presently have no probs with backups or time taking to encode...but is there any truth to what I have heard about not burning any faster than 2X??? that is write failures, bad quality back ups etc etc?.

Also with compression.....using DVD Shrink, I have read comments where people have said they can increase the compression of the menu's to gain space, while lessening the compression of the movie so its better quality - how do I do this?. Also is there a limit to movie compression where its noticeably differenet to the original DVD?.....As when I back up the whole DVD I might get a compression of say 75%...and i think ' the quailty of this is going to suck' so I end up making a backup of the movie only.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

I burn my movies at 4X and havent noticed any problems. PS2 backups I burn at 1X because the PS2 is more sensitive. I dont think DVD Shrink will compress past a certain percentage. If its at maximum compression then the only choice would be to omit optional languages and audio. If you click on the left directory structure of the menus and movie it will allow you to individually control the compression percentage of whatever you clicked on. Therefore you can raise some while upping the others. Hope this helps.
