Hey everyone, I recently got the dreaded error screen for my 360, E74 came up at the bottom. I came home to find my sister playing it, and discovered my dog had knocked it over when it was on, i was pissed. Anyways, I took it apart, and re-did the x-clamp fix from my previous rrod fix. Afterwards it still gave me the 1-light, so i checked around to see what was the cause and found that by pressing a black chip that is located underneath the white thing that attaches to the fan, so i did this and voila green lights :) So I figured that it might need this everytime i needed to start it, so i put a pennies-wrapped-in-tape spacer on the chip to keep it going each startup, but i worry its blocking the ventalation path a bit. Anyways this got it gonig for a bit, but now occasionally it will freeze, mostly on loading screens. Does anybody know if there is a sure way to fix this? Also if you could tell me what the black chip acutally is that would be awesome! Thanks a lot everyone. Or maybe if its not even the black chip at all and I'm just delusional :)
I would imagine that once you have the pennies installed under the ram chips that you should redo the steps of the xclamp fix where you remove the fan shroud and power it on with the fan over top of the heatsink so that the xbox will heat up reflow the solder connections.
That's my opinion anyway but there may be better solutions.
