Hi,

I've been looking up some PCI cards as most say they are so much better than USB for recording from video...anyway I've found 2 cards, which seems decent enough and the price is quite good too, but it doesnt mention anything about resoulution, though both have 10-bit chipset.
I want decent quality obviously, MPEG-2 SVCD quality but I dont really know what 10-bit means (cant find it in the glossary, can someone explain or point to a site with info?).

Here are links to the 2 PCI cards, any advice about them, anyone tried them?

What you think?

Also I was looking at the Dazzle DVC 150 Digital Video Creator, which is quite expensive but if its better for my purpose then I'd go for it. Is the Dazzle DVC 150 any good..seems it?

Thanks for reading..hopefully you could help me out,
(ohh and thanks to AD for the junior member status but really I dont deserve it..I just learn everything from this site)

Hey geekboy,

Even as a newbie, I can tell you that Dazzle is not the way to go. I have just upgraded my system because of problems with Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge. Capturing from analog sources yielded a very crappy AVI which looked terrible full screen. Here's a link to a thread you may find useful:

Here's another good thread:

Hope that helps. Searching thru the threads can be time-consuming so here's some shortcuts :)

Hi Infinite8,

Thanks for takin the time out to reply, it is appreciated,
I actully did have a look at those pages before I even thought about posting (I've got them saved in a folder on my desktop, my PC is filled with AD forum posts for reference; I think I've got the entire site backed up on my harddrive)

I took a chance the other week and picked up a very cheap Dazzle DV Clip package (firewire card, cable and pinnacle editing software included).
I gotta state, I think it's dynamite. Hooked up the digital camcorder and away I went. Amazing res and software, I've been creatin VCDs and SVCDs for a week now. It's one of the best pieces of 'ardware I've ever bought. I just wish I'd bought a videocamera with a DV-in so I could use it as a junction between my video recorder and PC hence making every input digital.

Thanks again for your post : )

If were know you were working with a DV Camcorder then all you would have needed was a simple $10 Firewire Card..Analogue and Digital Capture are Two TOTALLY seperate Things and the Section is for Analogue Capture....Cheers

Yep I know this section is for Analogue.

I was hoping for some advice on PCI cards (like the ones I linked) but as of yet there aint no posts about them.

In my reply to Infinite8 I mentioned the DV Clip package, though I still would like some advice on the PCI card capture for my standard video recorder.

Geekboy,

If you are looking for a great PCI card which can do both amazing analogue capture as well as DV capture, the ACEDVio by Canopus is what I'm using and am so far very impressed with the capture quality. One of the threads I linked you to before has more info. If you are looking for a cheaper method, Canopus has other cheaper solutions, though I cannot comment on quality from personal experience.

Hope that helps.
