ok the problem started 3 months ago i didnt look into it much but heres wat happened.

one day i got bored turned on my ps2 (btw its a FAT ps2 an old model not one of the new ones n i never had a problem up till..now well besides the fact that its reading discs ALOT slower.) i thought meh i'll play SSX3 well i turn on SSX3 and it tells me it cant load my data, i freaked out screaming "WHAT!?" i was like ok...lets try loading again. went to options tried to load didn't work, then i thought...ok i made a back up of the file maybe this one just got corrupted ill just load the back up via proaction replay and delete the one thats on the memory card. well i load up proaction delete the SSX save game file and then waited for it to load the save game list then i noticed it...nothing loaded! i was pissed, i copied over the backup either way thinking maybe its just being mean and not showing my data...sheesh i was wrong -_-. started up SSX3 and said theres no data would i like to make a save i tryed doing that but it said memory card is corrupt at that point i realized my memory card went to the depths of hell XD...figurativly speaking of course. well i turned off my ps2 when to my game cube turned on smash beat the snot out of lvl 9 marth a couple of time came back to my ps2, turned it on, took out the cd, went to the memory card screen. the screen shows the memory card but when u click on it no data shows up but if u look at the space left on the card theres bout 2mb and its an 8mb card. i thought ok maybe its just my ps2 so i went to my friends house tried it on his it didnt work...challenged him to some smash fought his marth a couple of times n won then just decided to leave it alone i havent touched my ps2 since then and now its irritating me. i was thinking maybe if i can connect my mem card to my laptop ill grab my save game data reformat the memory card and drag my data back over but at the same time im not even sure if that will work...nor how to do it considering i always used a usb via proaction to transfer my save games.

please someone help i dont want to replay .hack//G.U 1,2, atelier iris 3 (i was at the end), xenosagaIII or disgaea 2 get as far as i did in those games were hard enough those games alone (forget the games i have backed up) were like 9 days all together i dont feel like doing that all over again XD i just want my data back!

Try this and see if it will work for you before you format anything

What do you mean? Does your ps2 shut-off randomly?

no but at the bottom of the link it says that if my ps2 shuts off by its self or goes dead then im screwed...doesnt that mean that by using the program and what not that i may cause my ps2 to go dead?

Thats the same like saving/loading when you are warn not to remove the memory card/controllers or shut off the console.
Its not that your console will shutoff because you used this method but rather dont shutoff your console in the middle of the process because you might corrupt the save files even more or at the worst ruin the memory card.

I can attest that this method works but if you think its too risky for you, then do what you think is best.

ulaunchelf
http://www.sksapps.com/launchers/uLaunchELF_v4.25.zip
You only need the file named BOOT.ELF in that zip.

Booting by swapmagic via usb, that i dont know since i never had swapmagic.

If you have max media creator you can do this. just substitute when it says USBadvanced.elf with BOOT.ELF in the instruction.

You should be able to see your save games even though its corrupted.
Try slot 2 maybe you can get a diff result.

That sucks. Im sorry, man.
The only thing i can think off is maybe you can borrow another kind of cheat disk with a memory card manager in it and see if you copy the saves form that. That and you may need to format the mc to make it useful again.
