DVD Recorder 'Read Disc' Problem Samsung DVD-R

Bought a 25-count spindle of Samsung Digitall DVD-Rs
a few weeks ago. Have had several 'read disc' problems. What occurred was after recording two movies the DVD-R becomes inaccessible. After inserting the disc into the DVD drive/player, operation ceases. When I check "DISPLAY" on this Sansui DVD player(where the disc was recorded, I find a pair of dashes where the remaining time should be.
I have not made the effort to check every one of these Samsung Digitall discs, but I suspect that when I get the urge to use them the result will be the same as for these discs.

Are there some tests that I can perform to detemine if these discs are salvageable? I cannot do much because I cannot get past the initialization stage of operation. . . .

Help!!
