OK, so here is my problem.
I HAD vista home premium on my computer (came with it) and it kept crashing. So I decided to buy vista ultimate (kept crashing, damn HP).
I went out and bought Windows XP professional and installed it. After hunting for a little while, I have full support on XP (HP Pavillion DV9627cl). The only thing that I'm missing, is the windows media center. Is there a download that I can use to get this program? I think I have invested enough money in piece of shit windows for media center. If I call them and ask, they want $60 to help me, because it didn't come with xp...
My brother DOES have a computer though that came with XP. Should I lie to them and see if they can help me? His came with the home edition.
You could try with your brother's info and see if that works. However, if you are in to torrents at all, it seems some sites have it for download. So that may be an option also. Hope you get it straightened out.
When you bought XP, you should have seen if they had Windows Media Center Edition 2005. Media Center Edition has 3 disks, where as XP has 2. All the media center software is on the 3rd disk.
First of all I gotta ask you, do you want windows media center so it will work with xbox 360? Because if it is I can help you, but there's no way to get windows media center onto windows xp professional. It's not a program, its an OS, hence Windows Media Center Edition 2005 as opposed to Windows XP Professional.
I went through the same predicament as you, I had vista and loved the Media Center because I could watch all my movies on my 360, but I hated vista. I installed XP, but missed the media center. Though there is really no need for the media center if you used it for 360.
What you can do is, use Windows Media PLAYER 11, it allows you to share movies and pictures and music from your computer to your 360.
Get Windows Media Player 11, open it, hover your cursor over Library and click the little down arrow. Click "media sharing," then check the box that says "share my media," then click ok. If (Usually happens) the box re-appears with the check mark go to start at the bottom left -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Double-Click Services -> Scroll all the way down to Windows Media Player Network Sharing -> Right-Click -> Properties -> Change Startup type to Automatic -> Click Apply -> Click Start -> Click Ok
Now go back to Windows Media Player hover your cursor over Library and click the little down arrow. Click "media sharing," then check the box that says "share my media," then click ok. You should then check the box that says "Share my media to:" (if it's not already checked) and highlight "Xbox 360," then click ok.
Go down to your xbox and you can access your movies, music, pictures, etc that are on your computer.
I personally like it much more than the media center because it's lighter on your system and you don't even need to have it open to use it, you just need your computer on.
