Recently I ripped a DVD with Divx Author 1.5 which I bought when I heard that it could convert full DVDs to Divx without a problem. But when ripped the video came out with black rectangles top and bottom (letterbox) and when loaded into my tv the movie was stretched. Also the audio would skip every 4-5 minutes. Previously I had used AutoGK to convert all my movies to Divx, and it worked perfectly but it would take 5-10 hours to convert meanwhile DivxAuthor only takes 2-4. Is there any other software or way to use DivxAuthor to get AVIs or Divx files that are correctly cropped, with good quality, and with a conserved aspect ratio but at the speed of 2-4 hours?

It turns out I've just resorted to using AutoGK because of the results. I've also been hearing about Dr.Divx. I recently downloaded it but I had no idea how to use it.

Make sure your dvd files are in ISO format, I usually use dvdshrink to back them up to ISO

Next use the free fairuse wizard lite to convert your ISO into a divx/xvid/h264 (whatever you prefer). Fairuse has a preview screen where you can crop the blackbars out of the video, and make sure you check the box to "use tv display mode" this will give you a good finished resolution. The audio always comes out good no audio sync problems and even at the 2-pass mode it takes about 2-2.5 hours on a amd x2 4800 or 4 hours on a amd 2800.

The cpu will dictate how fast the video gets converted, always use the 2-pass mode for the best quality.

Thanks, jony218. Works like a charm. Results in 2-3 hours better than AutoGK's. Also more customizable with the cropping and PGCs since I don't have to pick one IFO. Great piece of software.
