Just yesterday i got the swap magic 3.6 plus dvd and cd.
the dvd seems not to boot at all.
But the cd does work.
I eveen pluged all the three sensors on the ps2 carefully.
I still cannot load god of war backup copy.
Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong.
I am also aware that cdloader named software could help me solve the problem.
thanx in advance.

I had that same problem with my slim PS2 7900SCH instead the swap magic 3.8 CD was not booting. I exchanged it with another PS2 and both discs work fine. I am not exactly sure what the problem was but exchanging the PS2 was the only way of fixing it.

i am having this problem too, i just bought myself a new swap magic cd set because i thought my last swap magic dvd was screwed

how did i come to this conclusion?, well my old swap magic 3.3 cd works just not dvd

apparently now that i have a newer edition i.e 3.8 i'm still screwed

why won't it play the dvd, i'm having the problem like you guys

cleaned the lens too.

and i never knew there was stuff like cogswap and crap like that, because i never thought ps2 really was homebrewed so heavily until today. So learning other methods to help me play dvd seems futile, my head hurts trying to learn it. Ironically most ps2 games are dvd too

Does your PS2 play Original DVD games fine, or is it just the SM DVD that doesn't work.

thanks for the reply, i had a original tekken tag lying around but i couldn't find it so i couldn't test it

However i tested a dvd movie and that works fine, i suppose data is written different to a ps2 game so maybe the test is not the best method.

If i can't get it to work, can i get some indepth detail to cogswap and other exploits? is cogswap just a simple program to play an original ps2 game so it loads up the TOC, stops the motor then i put in my backup or ntsc game?

i'd look it up on youtube but my net is capped/limited

Yeah having an Original PS2 DVD game is best to make sure your laser is good.

Ok now for Cogswap, in order to use it you would still need Original PS2 DVD or CD depending upon which you will play in order for it too work.
you can find cogswap.elf at sksapps.com

Load up cogswap elf
Eject PS2 and load Original DVD
Then it will say Cogswap or something
You then by "swap method" exchange the disc for backup
Press "X" to play

I think you would be better off to install fmcb 1.8 and use ESR to play backups.
You just have to patch the ISO image with a disc patcher, then burn it with imgburn.

If you follow the first 3 steps of this post, then look at the tutorial I posted last.

You can just ignore the part about usbadvance. I just get tired of retyping everything lol.

hey again, well even though my net is capped/limited i let a vid steam for abit and came back to it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu1gdSjtlVo

i understand the steps on how to run it, i just need to know the correct detailed method. I'll read your tutes and see if that helps me through it.

is cogswap.elf the thing i need to get into a memorycard? if so that means i need a stupid gameshark right?

what is a fmcb? is that the mcboot people are talking about, because i've done research here and other sites about these exploits (i.e i'm stlll learning)

even getting help here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/745909#4521548

p.s i assume this is usable on a slim version too right?

No you use your Swap Magic CD to install it using the fmcb 1.8 Swap Magic tutorial link I posted in the bottom of that post.

Free McBoot is a method of running homebrew applications directly off a Memory Card as a stand alone loader. No boot discs or modchips are required once installed

And yes its usuable on a slim or Fat Ps2.

hi again, thankyou for your patients, i can't get to sleep and its 3.15am here lol

so i'm attempting to do the exploit, i'm finished with my usb prep

however it says i must boot up swap magic. now on the tute it shows the dvd version, can i use the cd version and still later use the exploit for dvd games?

if not then the exploit was pointless since i'm attempting this because my DVD version of SM won't boot up but cd version will

i'm doing the exploit to get around my SM dilemma

Hello there

Yes you can use your Swap Magic CD to install the exploit.

And yes once the exploit is installed you can play DVD backups using ESR.

To play CD backups though you will have to convert CD - DVD
So that way you can then patch the ISO

well its cool i can use the SM cd version to install the exploit and still play the dvd-r backups

not that it matters since games usually are dvd capacity, but i'm curious (because i want to learn)

since i'm using cd version of SM, why do i need to convert cd to dvd?
actually i'm curious to know what that means overall, i thought cd or dvd would depend on size of game

for example tekken tag is small (i forgot, 700mbs i think) so common sense says burn it to cd-r, or are you saying games that are ripped that are below a gigabyte will be imprinted as a cd not dvd thus conversion is necessary. (does exploit only play dvd?)

waste of data i reckon, also most games take dvd capacity as i mentioned. Anyways thanks, when i grow up i want to be a afterdawn addict too :D

update: i just did it thanks :) um is this permanent or do i need to boot the program up everytime? anyways i'm gonna try to patch a game
update: 2 gonna postpone installation for now, i'm gonna go purchase a new memory card, i dont' want to wipe my games off

The converting CD-DVD is basically jsut because there is no way to patch a CD, so yes ESR only works with DVD backups.

I was just explaining in case you wished to, but like you say you can play your CD backups with the Swap Magic.

Yes it will be a permanent install to mc, so good idea to find a new one if you don't want to lose your saves.

This does work on Datel 64mb,32mb memory cards also. I currently have the Datel 64mb memory plus. I like lots of space.
