I've just purchased and installed a Pioneer DVR-106D and it works superbly but after burning a movie and testing it in my Samsung dvd player I find that WinDVD does not recognise the disc.
is the fault in the samsung reader or the brand of dvd's i'm using..(LASER DVD-R 4X..???
i tested the movies in the pioneer and they run great.

any help would really be appreciated.

thanx.

Mike.

moles42,

Check the Mfg. Spec. sheet to see if the media you're burning is compatible with your Samsung standalone player. Some stndalones read +R, some read -R and the new ones read both.

If the Samsung is in your PC, try a reboot just prior to attempting to play your backup.

If it is, then you might try some Name Brand media to see if that helps - you can never go wrong with a top grade media :-)

Pete...
Thanx for the feedback...much appreciated.
the samsung player is in my pc and fails to even acknowledge the disc is in the drive....i tested the disc in another pc's dvd (Hitachi) and although it started to play the disc it stuttered very badly which leaves me with a few unanswered questions.

are both the dvd readers crap?
or is the media (LASER DVD-R 4X) of a poor quality?
I'm convinced I've used the correct procedure for ripping and burning after using the guides mentioned in the forum....the movies play superbly in the pioneer burner but as you can imagine i'd rather use just the player and prolong the life of the burner.

any help much appreciated as always.

Lasers, depending on use, can wear, requiring replacement.

I still recommend trying an upward grade of media -

It's commonly agreed that Ritek G04 DVD-R (x4) is a very trustworthy & reasonably priced media !!;-)

P.S. Maybe the Samsung reader needs a flash firmware revision (?)

peace

I have read some post about SamSung DVD-roms there VERY picky of what media is put in them, even more pickyer than Plextor. As Scuba says, try a more expensive therefore a better quality media, it's cheaper in the long run.
