if you own the original u can download any songs..

otherwise it would be piracy (which is not supported on this forum)

btw Knome is right you have to download song by song, track by track....

Kazaa is a data mine for the RIAA, use it at your own risk.

While I have never used Kazaa (nor do I plan to) many that I have heard use it also say that there are a lot of spoofed files and viruses there.

If you must use a p2p look in some of the other threads here for recommendations of other p2p applications. Search for whatever interests you in a search engine on the internet and you will find what you seek.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

IRC is a much better way to get music, there are channels with every and any type of music, you'll never find a bogus file. Emule is too, but was not really meant for such small files.

there is nothing wrong with Kazza

Kazza may be getting investigated in Australia, but they have been vindicated in other countries including the US.

The investigations are to prove piracy implication for Kazza itself - not p2p users.

RIAA were only able to sue the really big music sharers who appeared to be doing so without owning the CD's themselves. If you own the music you can share it. This is the law and they know it.

One thing of note though is that the law in Australia is different. It actually states that you are not allowed to copy music into a different media type. ie. CD to CD backup is legal. However CD to tape backup is not. This is ridiculous, because I don't see how resticting the useability of a product is fair to consumers, and a backup to tape may mean that you can liten to music you own in your car that you otherwise would not be able to listen to. Private use and if the RIAA ever tried to take this to court it would be all over for them very quickly, as the tide of public opinion would rapidly rise over their heads.

Precedent has been set for example - Tape backup of the radio is not prosecuted - since it is for personal/private use.
The majority make the laws! So if the majority of society is making personal/private copies, the law in Australia by principle of common sense = common law, is that everyone can't be a criminal because everyone sees it as reasonable.
If your p2p sharing is for personal use there is no infringement, and you are not making any money or depriving the record media making companies of revenue.

1) because once you get a copy of it and hear it - free advertising you become inclined to go and see the performance of the musicians and they make money like they always have for their intellectual property.
2) the media companies have become obsolete and are just victims of technology, we simply don't need or want CD media anymore, a bit like casette tapes.
3) the quality that could be delivered online could be improved and charged for at a rate that would enable mass downloading of heaps of music. Since there is so much music and if it were charged for fairly for the free internet media that it is, the charge would be fairer and cheaper for consumers just for the intelectual property, so all money goes to the musicians. The web site distribution system can make a cut if the musicians want the marketing and quality interface that a well established new media company could have. Then each customer would be able to download thousands of high quality music files from their profitable sites. This is great advertising for the musicians - much fairer than the record companies currently are with their top 40 selections.
4) p2p is private use not commercial, no real financial loss! As the CD is obsolete technology they can expect to go out of business if they don't keep up with the technology.

Their fault for not even trying to. And all they have suceeded in doing with all this suing is making me not realise I don't want to buy their CD's unless I really want a CD type media. All the other times its off to see live concert, because this is premium quality - no media! Where the musicians make a lot more of the money, not someone who owns a cd stamping machine.

Wow that was some speech jump. I must say that I agree with you. What's funny is when I see an anti-music downloading ad(like at the grammies) it makes me want to go to my comp and download a whole bunch of stuff. I don't know if it's just me or if the anti-piracy comercials are working against the RIAA. In esence to the question, the IRC is the best way. However if you don't want to deal with it's learning curve then the best thing to do is get Overnet. Once you get Overnet search, in "everything", the name of the album you want and some large .rar files will come up.

Re soulseek, i agree its great - its also great for swapping files with your mates ( ie files that you know won't have viruses etc ) - just get your mate to tell you what username he's logged in as, and right click in the users box and "add user" - a few of us use it a lot for mp3's and stuff
PS I've started using streamripper to download mp3's off internet radio - works great most of the time but with some stations you just get a portion of the file - is this done as a "taster" so you go out and buy it ?

What is IRC? Whenever I search for it in a search engine, all I find are these chat things for impotent middle age crisis men. And what is Soulsearch or Soul Search (however you spell it)? Again, when I plop that into a search engine, it comes up as some artist or band or something about jazz, R&B, or soul music.
