I will have a Wii here in a couple days, and from what I have read, because it is newer it will be either D2E chipset or D2C2. I would like to order the mod chip before I get the Wii (so that I can get it ordered, and get it here faster), so my question is...

Should I just order the V2 D2Pro? It should work with both D2E and D2C2 correct?

Then the next question is... If it turns out that I DO end up getting a Wii that's D2E, is there any downside to having a V2 mod chip rather than V3?

Any help is appreciated! I just want to get this chip ordered ASAP.

The only D2Pro that is compatible with D2E is the version 3.

In most cases version 3 will work on all drives.

But there have been a few that have had issues using a version 3 on their D2C/D2C2 drive. So that is always a possibility.

Your safest bet is to wait till you get the Wii then open it up and find out for sure what chipset you have on the drive.

If it is D2C/D2C2 get version 2.

If it is D2E get version 3.

But if you can't wait and want to take the chance then the version 3 should work on all drives in most cases.

Sounds good. Now I just have to get my 8162b drive to work...

I just bought an 8162b. The OS I am running is Vista. I am running the drive via USB & IDE connection. When I powered the drive up, Windows searched for the drivers, and has set the drive as a generic USB device. It does not shop up in My Computer, and I cannot find drivers for this anywhere online. I did manage to find some sort of flash file for it, however that does not help because it only recognizes the drive in my laptop. I really want to get this thing running so any help is appreciated!

Broken down..

8162b drive
Vista OS
Connected via USB & IDE
