IM USING NERO TO DUPLICATE A DVD WITH A OPTORITE DD0405 BURNER FOR SOME REASON IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO READ AND WILL ONLY WRITE AT 1.80X I EVEN CHANGED IN NERO TO WRITE AT 8X BUT STILL WILL ONLY DO FROM 1.67X TO 1.90X HOW CAN I SPEED THE PROCESS UP

The first thing I see is that your DMA is off. Click the link that iluvendo gave you, get your DMA turned on, and try your burn again.
