New Wiikey not reading original discs

Sorry guys I'm a noob to all of this. I recently purchased a non configured Wiikey with the Wiiclip v3, when I inserted the original Wii sports game the console reported unable to read disc, so I detached the modchip and tried the game again it worked fine.

My Wii is PAL with 3.3E version firmware. The drive chip I have is D2B with the drive pins not cut, so the modchip should work fine.

1. Do I need to configure the Wiikey inorder for it to play original & backup games...if so could someone please help provide some information on what I should do.

2. Could it be that the Wiikey is faulty?
