I got one of those as payment and I was able to fix it by doing the x-clamp replacement, penny trick and touching up any solder joints that looked questionable.

Good luck.

MS wants 100 bucks to fix that problem. I checked with them when I registered it to my name, apparently the guy who owned it first had called them about the problem before I inherited it. It had a warranty sticker on it but I figured it would be better for me to fix it then to try and make it RROD to get MS to fix it for free and also considering that that probably would be considered fraud.

You should be able to find a set at a place like radio shack for a reasonable price. I know you need a smaller size than 10 to remove the rf board and the xclamps.

With those two sets you'll be able to take nearly anything apart.

The first link even includes security torx so you can take apart the xbox 360 controllers, and the prices aren't bad at all. The second link contains all the smaller torx bits, it will allow you to take smaller electronics (cell phones, mp3 players, handheld game systems) apart.

I think it's t10 for the main xbox screws and a t8 for the smaller black torx screws.

thx i used hexkeys instead and it worked. but i did strip some of the

screws but according to this tutorial i read you just make the holes

bigger and put the machine screws through.

but what i cant find is how to remove the x clamps so i will browse

through your links.

thx for posting them. also i have one quick question. is it possible

to backup the original firmware and the modified firmware because i

planned on updating it then modifying it.

but i didn't want to wait for the fall update to come out. so can i

swap firmwares so i can Dl updates then go back to modded firmwre or

will LIVE detect the flashing of the drive. sorry for the long post.

thank you for also taking your time to help me with this i really

appreciate it.
