Like I said, I am not sure if I am a newbie or an advanced, so I went ahead and posted here. I am getting a power calibration area is full error on my dvd decrypter. For some reason my dvd burner is just not writing. It will write cd's but I haven't been able to write dvds. I checked to see if my driver needed updated, but it said that I have the most up to date driver needed. I also cleaned out my drive with canned air thinking maybe it was just really dusty in there, still nothing. I tried downloading from my regular site (The first time it had happened, I use a new site, but then went back to my regular site). Still not working. Any help would be wonderful and appreciated....

Power calibration error generally means that the burner is having a problem with the media.
It cannot calibrate the laser power required to burn the media.
Assuming the firmware is up to date, you can try another media - preferably known good media like 'Verbatim' or 'Taiyo Yuden'.

Power calibration errors:

Options you can try with "power calibration errors"
o Try another brand of DVD-/+R or DVD-/+RW media. This is the most common cause of OPC errors.
o "Slow down your burning speed".
o Update the firmware of your recorder. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
o Check your power connectors, loose connections do occur. Don't share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the errors occurs with an external recorder, Check the USB cable and connections.
o Try different configurations, such as taking the DVD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
o Clean or have your DVD burner serviced. There are cleaning kits available. Sometimes just a gentle appplication of canned air can remove dust blocking the laser.
o Replace the DVD burner.
lets hope we don't need to do the last one :-)

I guess I am not familar with what firmware is. I have an HP DVD drive that I purchased last year...If I am understanding correctly, I can go to their site and see if my firware is updated for it?

I am also going to try new media. Thanks for suggesting some sites.

Thanks to both of you for your help...I seriously hope I don't have to replace it. It's done so well up until this point.
