Disc read error in the middle of playing madden 09

I need help. When I play Madden 09 or Gta Iv backups, I get a disc read error right in the middle of playing them. When I play madden 09 I get the message in the 2nd quarter. I get the message in Gta 4 about 3 minutes after playing. I have no problem playing these same discs on my brother's unit.
I have the iXtreme v1.2 which I installed back in Oct. 07. My brother unit was modded 3 months ago. I don't know which version he has. The other backup games play with no problem.
What could be the problem?

sounds like crap media to me. some box's will accept them, most wont. and will freeze or just boot you to the dash board with a dirty disc error.

I only use Verbatim. I even re-burned GTA4 at 2x speed instead of 2.4x. Same results, I play the game and 3 minutes into it and I get that DRE message. I take that same game, and head over to my brother's house and play for hours no problems.
I'm starting to get evil thoughts of swapping consoles whiles he's away. I know it's wrong. Do you think I should take it apart and clean the lens?

i have the same problem with gta4 ,burnt it 4 times,still get same message,rest of games are ok.
