Tired of replacing your PS2's laser every week? Well, then. Why not let the laser in your computers dvd-drive do the hard work?
My goal to play games on my ps2 without using a laser (ever) started when I realized I had two perfectly good consoles sitting around collecting dust because both had crap lasers.
"Idea" I said, "If I could somehow get uLauchELF to load without using a disk (swap mod of course), I could then play games already installed to my PS2 HDD".
I did a little research and found an awesome program called MCBOOT . It promised to allow me to launch uLaunchELF from my memory card. Problem was, I needed a way to install it to my memory card. I had to wait a day before i could borrow my friends modded (swap) console. I used it to launch the MCBOOT elf and installed the MCBOOT program to my memory card. Excitedly, I hooked up my console(broken laser), plugged in the memory card and switched on the system. For about 15-20 seconds, nothing. I was about to bash the now worthless console (there is no way im buying another laser) when the familiar uLaunchELF GUI appeared. A yelp of excitement escaped my lips.
It was only minutes later when i decided that having to use my buds swap mod PS2 everytime I wanted to install a game to my HDD was lame.
I conducted further research and came across a program (for PC) called WinHIIP .
This program allow one to hook up his PS2 HDD drive to his computer and install ISO images of games to it. One would then transfer the HDD back to the PS2 and use HDLoader to play the game. One would have used a program such as DVDdecrypter to create the ISO from a game he owns, therefore making his laser obsolete, or at least preserving the laser in his ps2.
I created an ISO of the game Black, installed it with WinHIIP and it worked perfectly. I also completely removed the laser and all guts related to the cd/dvd-rom system for weights sake. The thing ways a ton with the HDD and adapter but, meh.

I can now switch on my console and play a game from my hard drvie in under a minute without the use of a crappy PS2 laser. I dont mean a minute till the game starts loading, I mean I am shooting hookers in the face within a minute! (gotta love it)

I searched the forum and didnt find this subject anywhere. Im sure there are people that would like to know how to do this Step by Step, but im too lazy for that! If anyone wants to write up a tutorial go ahead, but I did come up with this on my own ( at least I never heard about it before I did it) so please give credit If credit is due.
