Through a system of unforseen mishaps I find myself in the .05% of PSP users. I'm now the owner of a semi-brick. But really... that's OK.
It started because I wanted to upgrade from 3.03 OE-B to something recent. Did a Google and found myself here. This board has an update thread where all the files are available with an excellent tutorial and plenty of reports of success .... so begins the tale....
I made the Pandora Battery thru my psp before I made the magic memory stick. When I used them together everything went fine and the message stating, 'The install was a success ... Press x to reboot' appeared. After I took out the battery and plugged in the power cable the trouble started. The thing wouldn't boot. Tried this, tried that. Back to Google...
The second magic memory stick I made was from a different board than this one. Went thru the steps and used the program files provided with a borrowed psp. Then I tried that one in my brick with the same results. The files were flashed and the message said the install was a success .... but diddley... still a brick. Tried this, tried that. Google again.
The third magic memory stick was made from the info and files provided by a video on YouTube. This baby used the latest DC ver7 as the upgrade route. And it also installed Time Machine. Lucky me.
After booting this one, there were some TOOLS! Yea! Went ahead and reformatted my flash 1,2,3 and 4. Figured what the heck and regenerated the ID Storage too. Well needless to say... Kaput. Still won't boot. BUT ... after putting in the battery for another try at it, the damn thing started booting. Time machine to the rescue!!
I have to have my magic memory stick and Pandora Battery in for my psp to boot now. It works just fine running my backup cso and psx games. Internet and network is good to go. It runs files from my different memory sticks, and with the magic stick in I don't have any problems going into or out of suspend mode. It will crash if any other stick is in it though if you try suspend mode.
And now I have a very secure psp. Unless I have the 'Boot' stick in, you can't get it to turn on. Of course it's a bit of a pain in the butt to use with all the stick swapping, but no one around here can use it unless I want them to.
Interesting...I'v only had that installed since TimeMachine, but it's good to know others enjoy the luxury of being able to boot into Pandora mode any time they want, since the IPL is on the memory stick.
Why not just make both sticks a "boot" stick, and just take it out when you want it secure? That way, if you lose the boot stick, you can always use another.
Yeah, was gonna make both my 2 gigs into 'boot' sticks. but I've got two 4 gig sticks i'm not sure are able to take the time machine ipl. i just hate to put all 8 gig back on the sticks if they need formatting. They work OK but you cant use suspend mode with them.
