I've been snooping around the web, looking at various topics of discussion about upscaling (not just the PS3's upscale feature), and I've come across a few questions. Hopefully, some of you might be able to answer some of them.

1.) Should I leave the upscaling of my games and DVDs up to the PS3 or the TV? (I've heard that most HDTVs nowadays will upscale lower-resolution picture automatically.)

2.) Of the few games I have that support 16:9 (Ace Combat 4 and 5, Final Fantasy XII, and GT4), do I set the Upscale to Fullscreen? I ask because I'm not sure if they need the "PS2's" system settings to be set at 16:9 or not.

3.) Is there a way for the PS3 to automatically "know" when to use Fullscreen or Normal upscaling? I've been playing my PSX games, and I get tired of switching from Full Screen to Normal all the time.

Thanks again for any help.

Set it to Normal and leave it. Normal is Up-scalling. Full screen is stretching. Normal is the only way to go. Your PS3 determins what your TV is able to handle and sets it to the Max resolution unless you do not have that resolution checked in the PS3 Video settings.

The PS3 doesn't determine what the TV can handle. That's sort of like saying that a car determines how fast someone drives. It's more like the TV determines what the PS3 will output.

Anyway, the issue I have is that the Normal setting shows the game in a 4:3 aspect ratio, whether I set the game's settings to widescreen or not.

Sorry, you misunderstood me or maybe i did not write clear. The PS3 detects what the TV's Max resolution is and sets the PS3 Video output to that If that resolution is enabled on the PS3 Video out.
