Hi all.

I have a question about the techniques that I am using to burn my PSX cd's as none of them seem to load when using the simple swaptrick(however I can get my playstation 2 to boot backup psx games that I brought years ago using the same swaptrick). I have been trying to run UlaunchElf and then Free MCboot or Cogswap. (The image for this has been created using Independence compiler 4.1 having followed these instructions Youtube Link).

With the image created I then mount the image on a virtual drive. I then use clonecd with these settings :

Data Read Settings

Read Speed Data: Max
Read Subchannel Data from Data Tracks: Checked
Regenerate Data Sectors: Checked

Audio Read Settings

Read Speed Audio: Max
Audio Extraction Quality: Medium(Fast)
Read Subchannel Data from Audio Tracks: Checked
Only Read the First Session: Unchecked

Error Handling

Fast Error Skip Settings: Off
Abort on Read Error: Off
Don't Report Read Errors: Off
Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner: Off

Write Settings

Write Speed: 4x
Weak Sectors: Ignore
Don't Repair Subchannel Data: Checked
Always close last session: Checked

as described by Shiori

Also to note I use Verbitum CD-R's.

These settings havn't worked for me however :(

I also tried mounting the image and doing a copy with alcohol 120% and the playstation CD preset profile @ 4x and 8x. These didnt work either :(

I even resorted to using nero 7 burning rom with recomended settings for burning PSX games but still no joy :(

I also tried these combinations with an Action Replay Max iso but couldnt get that to load either. I even then tried burning the iso's using the same methods with a different cd burner (I have a neat stack of coasters now)

The frustrating thing is that I know i can get backup psx games to work as I have backups of Tenchu, FFVII and spiro that I brough years ago and they load fine using the swap trick (i.e. Turn on PS2 go to browser, put original psx game in, wait for the cd icon to come up. Swap the original CD with the backup CD and then hit X to load the game).

Please also note that I am using an unmodified PS2 v9 i think (the bios is 5002). I have no swapmagic or action replay or anything like that, I just use the straight and simple cd swap trick.

So can any one give me any aditional pointers as to why the backup cd's I burn wont load but the old backup games (im talking 6 or more years old lol) work fine?

Thanks everyone.

You could try making the CD to install fmcb this way and see if that will work.
I have no idea if it will work or not swapping the way you do.

I think seriously you have a couple of steps wrong.. more like you are trying to make a psp bootable image rather than a psx backup ;)

Just try making a straight copy.. most of the protection isn't relevant to modern software.
