Bit tech got a unit on hand and they haven't written a proper review yet just a basic overview and unboxing but a tidbit at the end caught my eye:

Quote:
Rich: Having watched Harry literally just finished building it and turning it on, our initial impressions to the noise are that without a game in the drive the Xbox is finally, truly silent.

With the dashboard update that lets you download games onto the hard drive the 360 will be virtually totally silent without the DVD drive spinning.

I can't even begin to say how happy I am an RRoD free silent 360 with games that load as fast as lightening. This is what the 360 should have been in the first place

probably will cost as much as a arcade pack. and transporting it is gonna be a pain.

but at least there's plenty room for cooling.

It's 150 dollars but 60 pound in the UK which isn't too bad since the 360's are much more expensive here and apparently it's not as big as it looks and will fit under one arm.

I think their all fair trade offs for what it provides though. I can finally use my 360 as a windows media extender the 360 is way too loud for it at the moment.

it's just a replacement case. you still have to buy/own a 360, and disassemble it, practically throwing away the warranty.

It's just an alternative case for your 360.

It's quite big compared to the 360 case but it can cool your 360 much better with a much bigger fan that is a lot quieter and can increase and decrease in speed depending on the temperature.

Still not sure how good it is at cooling the 360 haven't got that information on hand at the moment but without the DVD drive spinning the thing is practically silent.

If it can run silent and cool the 360 well with a HDD to back up your games onto you'd be running a much better cooled and silent 360.

Personally I can't even begin to stand the noise that comes out of this thing and I hate sending it away for a few weeks to get it repaired and if you have it modded then your practically throwing it away.

At the moment my modded 360 has kicked the bucket again so I'm waiting on this case now.

We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of our review sample of the Lian Li XB01 for a few weeks now and were practically brimming with excitement when the delivery man brought this unassuming black and orange box through our door. Does it work as expected? Does the 360 fit perfectly? Does it make it any cooler or any quieter? Is it worth the upgrade? So many questions, so little time.

.

And here it is, the XB01 in all it's glory. For those looking for a little scale, the rear exhaust fan is of the 120mm variety - needless to say its more than twice the size of a standard Xbox 360 case. The fan is 12V, 0.27A and comes with a 3-pin Molex connection. We tried looking for details on this and the reports across the net vary - but it shifts around 56 CFM and is between 22-25 dB at 1,300-1,500RPM.

At full speed that's not silent, but it's a decent airflow for something a lot quieter than the original 70mm 360 fans. It's worth noting though that the 360 dynamically scales the speed according to the internal temperatures anyway, so it'll likely often run a lot less than full.

Other than our concerns about fingerprints and sprung hatches, the XB01 certainly seems to be a very strong, durable case on the face of things. Every panel fits together securely and all edges are all well machined. While we criticise the flaps, we have to admit they fit well and are magnetically held in place keeping things neat and flush.
