How to find out ixtreme version?

Hello everyone, I'm not new to modding as I've been using a Wii for ages but I'm new to Xbox360 modding. I have looked around in the forums but I haven't found a thread relating to this.

I got an Xbox360 as a gift and the people who gave it to me told me it was modded in the store, but they didn't know what it was modded with. The store could only tell me it has an ixtreme modchip in it, but couldn't tell me anything other than "it's safe to go online with it". My question is, how can I find out what firmware version I have on this chip?
And if I do find out, how do I know how "safe" is it to go online? For example, I was planning on buying Live Arcade games, can I do that with an ixtreme installed?
Also, is there any limitation on what kind games I can put into the console? (With the Wii there's always the risk of bricking with a different region game.)
