article published on 29 August, 2008
Sony CEO Howard Stringer was recently asked if the PlayStation 3 was suffering as a result of the Nintendo Wii's very strong sales but he said it was not despite the fact that Nintendo probably has the "superior business model".
"The Wii is a well-made device that has found a new target group. For a while, we held the same target group with the SingStar karaoke game. But perhaps we neglected ... [ read the full article ]

Forgive me if I am wrong here...but every dollar taken out of the market by your competitor is a dollar not going to your product right?
Now they say the WII is not a "competitor" I can by that in pat but only enough to say that HALF of that dollar is taken thus they have lost billions to the WII's competition....

I don't think I can name a single person that's said "I don't think I'll buy a PS3, I'll have a Wii instead". I agree with this guy, it's not in the same league. The true gamer has either a Wii and a PS3, or perhaps preferably a Wii and a 360, all three if you're a rich guy. However, those who have to make do typically slot into one of two groups almost automatically, the kind who would want a Wii, and the kind who would want a 360 or PS3, there's just no real crossover.

Actually he isn't wrong the Wii & PS3 are two totally different systems aim at different groups of peoples.Wii sells are strong but so are PS3 & PS3 sells are getting stronger.I don't think PS3 will pass Wii in the next two years but who knows As Sony have said this isn't a sprint its a marathon PS3 is more future proof than Wii.

The Wii was never set out to be futureproof, it's absolutely archaic, but it's still incredibly popular, and even attractive to high-end graphics-munchers like myself. It's a console that's fun, in the same way Pacman doesn't need good graphics or realistic physics, neither do most Wii games.

Mmm mews fuzzy logic =^^= *scratch* Zippy dollars can be regained. if i bought a Wii and then bought a PS3. they both got mews Cash Seez.
the Wii is marketed toward the younger audience what it lacks in power it makes up for with innovation.
Both the PS3 and XBox360 are geared toward the more mature gamer as in older gamers.
the Wii has nothing that it can compete with, its having a wonderful time.
i was turned away from the Wii because of the controls. i was also turned off by the DS, im sorry i just like the old buttons an D-pad anyday the use of the stylus on most Good DS games was a let down.

I'll be honest, I was never a real fan of the DS other than for Brain Training, and it's a bit expensive to use just for that... :P
As for the Wii being targeted towards younger audiences, while I agree it's the only current console really suitable for the younger gamer, it's not solely targeted towards younger audiences...

Again, I disagree. I've been playing games since the heyday of the SNES, and amongst owning a high powered gaming PC, I share a 360 with my mates, yet I still enjoy playing Wii Games - Wii Sports, the various mario-related titles (WarioWare included), the WiiFit thing is looking promising too.

yes like any other its no different in power difference than the DC,PS2,GC and Xbox, it has a new tactic aiming at non gamers but the Nin console has always aimed at families and since the N64 days has had issues with keeping normal gamers because of lack of 3rd party support ,its all nothing new really..

Yes Gamers, IE REAL GAMERS;
the N64 was a mess for being the next great nin system the GC took forever to snowball into place, the WII has taken off hard but has 3 or 4 real games to show for it.
So nothing is that surprising for the WII and the game plan to make profit off the hardware is earning them money as not only a game machine but a broad spectrum entertainment machine, and yes I realize I said there's not alot of real games on it but some gamers buy it still thus making it a game machine because it has both, its not like the PS3 or 360 have quirky daicodomies about themselfs...

Lmao - so how are you acquiring these games? Is a store lenient enough to sell games like that to a 12 year old, or is someone else bringing the goods? :P

it was a joke i doubt you will ever see games like that on Wii, aside from the occasional RE titles that make there way there. then again you always need to know how to shoot zombies in case it happens.
