CD-RRW Company refuses to release firmware

Hi.
I have a TEAC CD-RW that needs a firmware update (reads blank cds wrong, giving wrong maximum write speed for Nero). I've been emailing TEAC for months until I was directed to their Japanese branch where I got the answer that they simply don't intend to release a firmware update for it.
Do you know if I can install a firmware update of another model perhaps? or is there any way to convince a company such as TEAC to release a firmware update?
The model is: CD-W548E
