UK Multi region XV DV55 will not play an R1 DVD

Hi all
I'm not expecting an easy solution with this but here goes anyway.
I have a UK version multi region Pioneer XV DV55. I have played region 1 DVD's previously with no problems at all but last night I tried to play an R1 "Event Horizon" and just got the message "this player is not compatible with this region" or words to that effect.
Could access the menu and trailers but not the main movie.

Any ideas for firmware or any other remedies? And why this particular DVD (any known issues)?
Having thought about it I haven't retried the other R1's to see if they are still ok, so I'll try that tomorrow (off to bed now!)
