psp component av cable problem

Hi
ive got a psp slim 4.05 firmware, i recently bought a component connect av lead so i could play games and watch films from the psp, for some reason the psp does'nt always recognize the cable, when i go to the menu on the psp for connected display settings, then to switch video output i get the connect av cable message even though it is connected?
i can hear the audio but no video
i have played both games and films through this cable but sometimes it works sometimes not, so the tv does accept progressive scan
i would be very grateful for any help
