DonnyDon,

I have heard some users say that it did. I have not had that problem with my HD04 so I'm not sure.

As I do not use,at present, the front jacks.I have not tried shielding the ribbon cable. AS I said Gtrman (Guitarman) pointed this out and I agree. I do feel that the hum/buzz is coming from the display. Shielding the ribbon could be a problem. The only other way would be to replace the leads to the RCA jacks and that would be a project. I would try to shield the ribbon cable. Disabling the display should stop the buzz but I don't think that's an answer. Maybe ilo has an answer but They can be hard to talk to. By the way Gtrman (Guitarman) has much info on the ilo recorders and his site [www.ss3F.com/ilo] is very good.

Hi. Would any of the firmware hackers be able to help me here? I'm blind, and have an ilo hd dvd recorder. I would like to know if it's remotely possible to hack the firmware to somehow use pre-recorded voice prompts for the menus like the on screen menu, the timer recording menu, and the setup menus. Perhaps the prompts could be in mp3 format, and stored on the hard drive. I understand that the dvd menus have no chance what so ever of being spoken unless the dvd has a talking menu structure, which very few have. But is there some way to get the system menus to be spoken?

Thanks lots.

Thanks if I were to ever need to use that type of conection I would probably go through the back inputs by passing the front ones all together.

I did notice that once you burn it to a DVD you do loose that hum and buzz.

Question for you: Ever since you have bought your player you have never had the color problem ? Man that is awesome for you. There is one show that I see this reallly bad and that is LOST cause alot of it is filmed at night and then when any light does show up on the actors you really see the green tint.

With all the updates I have done none have fixed it. I don't know if I am going to up date with this last one dealing with the SONY isue cause I don't use my iLo for DVDs just recording. I have just grown custom to it.

Has anyone ever lost all of the audio when you burned a program to a DVD? That just happened to me. I made four discs and none of them play any audio PERIOD. I have tried them on other players and my computer. The only thing that really blows is that I already returned my unit. So now I can only watch these shows in "Silent Vision". What a load of poop. I am glad I returned it right before the 90 days. They still tried to give me crap about it. I bought a Philips HDRW720. This is a slick unit and hopefully well backed by Philips.

zambonima,

From the issue you just listed, it sounds like you had the HD04 with the hard drive. Chances are you were still on the 1178 firmware. The issue of the ILO not copying the audio from the HDD to the DVD was fixed with firmware version 1185 and forward.

ydkjman,

The only thing I have seen is the blotchiness in some of the darker scenes that makes the picture look like a lo-res graphic on a computer, but not a green tint. I guess I've been lucky that way.

As I understand it, you indicate that if you use the front jacks and there is a hum/buzz, You lose it on a burned disk and the disk is clear. Thats interesting, I would think that any noise or whatever would be on the recording, Like I say I havent used the front jacks but will give it a try.

Does anyone know of a way that I can transfer a video I've burned on a DVD with my ILO to my computer hard drive? Is there a simple way? Does it require additional components? Is it even do-able?

Nick2,

You can use either DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink. It will create a copy of the DVD on your hard drive.

I think maybe I didn't say what I wanted to clearly. What I mean is, after I burn a video from the HDD to a DVD I put the disk in my computer (I don't have a DVD burner in my computer) and am left with two folders on the DVD. One is Video_TS and the other is Video_RM I think. My computer can't seem to find any video or audio in these folders. I'd like to be able to copy a video from the recorder's HDD and place it on my computer somehow so I could send it to a friend. I'm not looking to copy commercial DVDs at this time. Why can't this shit be simple?

Nick it is fairly simple. First though your computer is going to need to have at least a dvd rom to read dvd disks. Sounds like yours does not. With the price of dvd burners being not much more then dvd roms I say it is time to treat yourself to a burner.

Gtrman,

I've also had the color tinting problem, i've noticed with the latest upgrade (with hack) that the problem has slightly gone away. In scenes that is very dark, it's still there but not as bad. In extreamly dark scenes, it does go back to black and white. I really think that the ILO has a resolution problem with low lighting, seems that the video quality gets worse the less light is in the scene.

You are nearly there then. Some dvd playing software should have came with the drive. Power dvd is what comes with most. To play the disk just play it same as playing dvd_video. With you wanting to send to your friend you will need to convert it. If you are going to send over internet especialy. Easy way would be to use Nero and make Nero digital. That way the friend can use Nero player to watch it and can use Nero make my own dvd to make dvd if wanted to.

There are also many other options for making it divx, xvid, SVCD, or VCD. Good place to start looking into those is the software link at top of this site. But as I said Nero will be the easy way to do it. If you or your friend dont got it they do offer 30 day trial.

Nick2,

In the VIDEO_TS folder, you will have a few different files. The ones you are concerned with are the one with the .VOB extension. These are the video file for the DVD. The one called VIDEO_TS.VOB is the menu and can be ignored. Assuming you only have one recording on the DVD, there will one set of .VOB files. They will be named:
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on. Each file will be no more than 1,040,384KB and the last one in the set will usually be smaller. The whole set of these .VOB files together will be your complete recording.

The .VOB file are nothing more than MPEG files. You can copy them to the computer and change the .VOB to .MPG and they will play in any program that supports playing mpeg files. The key is finding a way to turn the whole set of .VOB files into one .MPG file. There are a couple of ways to do this.

1. Copy the .VOB files to a directory on the computer. Use a program like Wombles MPEG-VCR or MPEG Video Wizard to stitch the set of files together and export it back out as one.

2. The easy way!!! Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. It will rip the main movie file off the DVD and store it on the computer as one complete file. Then, all you have to do is change the .VOB to .MPG on the one file. Presto!! You have a complete mpeg file of your recording that you can do what ever you want with.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any other questions, let me know.

One more thing. This might be a little off topic, but I'm trying to make a menu for a few dvd's. Is there a way to map the number buttons on my dvd remote to a menu selection? I know it can be done commercially, but I'm not sure about doing it for home dvd's.

philli,

You can usually copy other dvd_vr format discs to the HDD on the ILO but it will usually not allow other formats, even if you made them on the computer.

As far as remote menu buttons, this is usually a function of the player. Most any DVD with chapters can be accessed by pressing the number keys on the remote. When authoring the DVD, just put your chapter inserts wherever you want them and they should automatically be accessable via the remote.

Gtrman,

I was using the 1191 firmware. I tried playing the disks in the HDRW720 and it would not even read the disks.
