Yes, definitely - this is done to match the image size of a gamecube disk :)

Been reading this in anticipation of my 1.9g update not working! ( i say cynically!)

However, when i burn the pal 1.9g update (mine is PAL) and boot it up, it comes up saying: wiikey update v1.9g beta [US]

Isn't that supposed to say PAL?

Since i got the chip installed all i've done is turn it to regionfree.

I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks

Which image file did you burn to disk?

the pal one. In fact i've just found someone else with the same problem but reversed...
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/585172#3560360

how weird is that.
It did it for the 1.9b update as well. I burned the pal iso and it says [US]

me again :)

OK everything went according to plan , 1.9g definately updated , ladies underwear looking fine lol actually the Mrs was upset it wernt a fella ..pfft , woman

anyways put 1.3 config disk in , changed top option to region free came down to save settings and then ejected disk and rebooted , didnt actually use the software option on the very bottom to reset ...good or bad ??? is my 1st question in this post

updated Wii to 3.X reboot and put in SMG which the wife says has some stopper added to it , game didnt run , was seen ok in initial wii screen but just wouldnt run , screen went black and machine hung , rest . removed and put in 1.3 setup but of course its now blocked by 3.X non boot routine , no prbs for me i can get over that after reading this thread with GCOS

my 2nd question though is this
the SMG disc wouldnt run because why ?? i didnt reset software wise as listed above in question 1 OR it has the stopper ?? if no stopper is used, at a guess , do you think it would be fine and run , or maybe i just missed a setting in 1.3 ??

a thought or 2 from experienced peeps would be appreciated

sorry for the long blurb , i do tend to meander and wind in forums lol

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me with my problem. Here is my situation:

1. I have a Wii recently modchipped with WiiKey, current firmware version is 3.0E.
2. I downloaded the 1.9b update and 1.3 config iso's, used filechop on both, and burned them both to dvd.
3. I tried the 1.3 cd, it could not be read. So I used the 1.9b update cd and it worked (using reset button to go through prompts). After this I tried the 1.3 cd again but it still did not work.

How can I get the 1.3 cd to work? I do not have a Gamecube controller so as far as I can tell I cannot use the GCOS boot cd solution which ppl mentioned requires a GC controller.

Your help greatly appreciated

What is the actually method. Also my Wii is running firmware version 3 and I need a GCOS disk so I can boot into the config disk after I update were can I download that?

Thanks in advanced.

**Also once I get this to work I plan on uploading the .ISO's files for people just to download and use to make things easier.

I think I just found some working 1.3 config image.

I've tried just about everything to make a gcos boot disc. This seems like the easiest way but I don't know what to do with this. Do I have to expand this to 1.35 gigs? My wii is updated to 19.g and 3.1U. I either get the black error screen, or my wii can't read the disc. I have so many coasters I don't know what to do with them all. Maybe make an abstract art piece. This is very frustrating. Please help.

I just have one question (read trough the entire thread as well)

I'm using DVD+R, ImgBurn (2x and 4x) and have tried all the settings that have been suggested here. However my ISO files are indeed 1.35GB (1.459.978.240 bytes) with the help of filechop.exe, but the burned DVD is still just only ~7MB (0.9g update disk) when viewing the properties of it in explorer. Also the DVD disk itself looks like it has been burned to 1.35 GB (visible written data on disk).

Now my question is, while the image has to be 1.35GB does the resulting burned CD have that size as well? Because I see used space at only ~7MB as if the filechop.exe didn't do anything at all to the "hidden" track.

Going to try normal R DVD's tomorrow as well to see if the problem lies there...

Thanks in advance :)

Hi all

I hope people are still looking here!! I've looked at the thread, but whilst I see people with issues, mine (maybe) a little different, although I accept the outcome may be the same.

I have a PAL UK wii, 3.1. Wiikey fitted, no idea what version or firmware.

I tried to update to 1.9b and it ran, did the test, then said there was a problem "check connections". I should point out that the DVD was written on Nero, high compatibility, so should have padded!

So I thought I should run 1.3 update, again burnt onto -R. Straight to error screen.

Now some advice seems to be run 1.2 but I can't seem to find that, or maybe the GCOS thingy is right?!?!?! I am a bit confused if I am honest!!

Would someone be able to help?

Thanks :o)

when the update disc loads and it says stopping drive eject the disk then press a to test. This should run through the test. insert the disc and press a to update.
This worked for me (but not the update since i actually discovered i don't have a wiikey, despite being told it was!)

Are DVD+R generally a none working type for wii backups and setup disc btw? Should I go with DVD-R?

Get yourself a cheap GC controller - there's no other way for you to do this at present.

Opening the disc in Explorer is a waste of time - the image data is not directly accessible in Windows. Take your original Wii disk and put it into your computer and see what size it says....

Console updates will not brick your wii.

What you read is that games which force updates from other regions *may* brick your Wii.

In your situation, there's no harm in updating the console. Stick to same region games to be 100% safe: if you get an imported game then check the usual places for news (http://www.nintendo-scene.com) on its compatibility.

Yes, you can update through the internet to Version 3.1.

No, you don't need to redo the config or re-update the wiikey. Your console and the wiikey are two entirely different things - one will not affect the other.

Hi guys. I have figured it out.
All you people saying this is simple, I disagree. When you say things like "navigate to the 1.9b folder, people do not no what you are saying. These are reasons they do not understand.

This is what I did.

1. Download from wiikey.cn the files 'update1.9b' and 'config.1.3'
2. extract these files.
3. open the folder 'config.1.3' and copy the file 'filechop'
4. Paste 'filechop' into the folder 'update1.9b'
5. Click on 'start' then 'run'.
6. click on 'browse' and find the folder 'update1.9b'
7. double click on 'filechop'
8. In the open text field, you should see something similar to this.
"C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Desktop\update1.9b\filechop.exe"
9. add this to the end of the text. wkupdate.1.9b.xx.iso 1459978240 (were there is 'xx' put your region. For example. wkupdate.1.9b.PAL.iso 1459978240)
10. The text in the field should now look something like this.
"C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Desktop\update1.9b\filechop.exe" wkupdate.1.9b.PAL.iso 1459978240
11. Hit 'OK' The size of your iso file should have changed now.

I am not going to proof read this, so if you have any problems. Please just post below.:)

I did step by step as your procedure, but as last my iso file was not change at all. Please help me out. Thanks.
