PSP battery problem

My psp was working fine until i replaced the umd door, to do this i had to open it up and remove the lcd and some other ide type cables. I put everything back together and made sure all cables where secure before reassembly. When i tried the psp it would'nt boot up, so i plugged in the charger and tried it and the green light would come on and it would boot up, but in an instant it switched off and returned to charge. It done this repeatedly until i left it to charge for a while and then tried it with success. But when i go to battery info. it says CHARGE LEVEL 0% and BATTERY STATUS: CHARGING. I was wondering if my tinkering may have caused this problem or if it's just coincidence the battery died.

Any help would be appreciated Cheers.
