Viddyou starts 'high bitrate video service'

article published on 11 September, 2008

Viddyou has announced the launch of a new High Bitrate (HBR) video sharing service available at Viddyou.com that the company says will "allow users to share near original-quality video from their digital camcorder or camera without the quality degradation typically seen in online video." The company wants to differentiate itself from other online video services such as YouTube or DailyMotion ... [ read the full article ]

Share High Bitrate video at "near original-quality" at no cost to you? Really? That sounds incredible. Well, if Viddyou can accomplish this it would indeed be wonderful. However there are the ISPs to contend with. Comcast, as we have seen, will likely cap you off with barely an 11% or so streamed. TimeWarner I hear will start measuring their service as well, or have they started already? The future looks bleak.

Good luckk to you Aaron Wadler.

I predict that all of these new emerging online "higher quality" video companies are going to fall on their face. Whether it's the youtube-esque like this or the new HD streaming movie services popping up - as bandwidth caps get tighter in the next 6 months and people start deciding to cut out some of their downloading so as not to pay for a higher tier. Just wait until the 1st bill comes to the average family. People are not going to be happy with their ISP when they are provided no way of tracking their usage and are cut off until they pay more.

High quality? They want to stand separate from you tube? HA! I went on there, and when you enlarge it , it's still a piece of crap. High quality means Stage6 quality period. Give us something that compares with what Stage 6 was and then yes, we can call it high quality.

You uploaded that video in the lowest quality - standard definition - so that's what you get back.

Try HBR or HD to experience the difference on your own videos, or www.viddyou.com/hd and www.viddyou.com/hbr for examples of what the site really can do.

Viddyou seems pretty good, but I also like Mivid.net since they don't charge you anything and the videos look a little better. (Or alot depending on what you upload). http://mivid.net
