That seems like a pretty damn good price compared to the Riteks I previously purchased and was thinking about buying again. But for 4x DVD-Rs at 63-73 cents each, I've been reconsidering. So I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these, and knows whether they're decent dvd-rs with a low defect rate. I haven't yet had a defective Ritek out of a bundle of 100... can the Matrix dvd-rs be expected to be as good? Thanks.

Personally, I would be leery of them.

It looks like the smallest amount you can buy is a spindle of 50 which means if they turn out to be crap you're either stuck with them or you have to go through the hassle of trying to RMA them and probably have to pay to ship them back.

You can't argue with success. Ritek G04s are all I buy. I've never had a bad burn with them and consider that superior value by itself compared to saving some money on the cheapies and accepting a certain number of coasters.

If you find something that works for you, why go to the hassle of changing it. At the end of the day you get waht you pay for. If you want to buy very cheap discs and live with media problems, thats fine. Personally im on Ritek BRANDED discs

I agree with finding media that works for you. I find that these 20 cent Princo's I have been using are great. I would much rather spend 20 cents as opposed to a dollar or more for some other media. The saving really add up.

And for that buck you are getting great, well regarded media, and you don't have to run around town playing the rebate game.

mystic, what in the world are you talking about? I bought the Princo DVD-R's at Office Max, which is about 2 miles from my house. Cashing in on the rebate required me to put it in an envelope and walk it out to my mailbox. I don't call that running around town...lol.

Slofire, that's ridiculous. I just spent $192 for 200 Ritek G04 DVD-Rs that burn at 4x. Shipping was an extra $10 or $15. www.meritline.com

Are "matrix" brand the same as "digital matrix"? I assume not. I purchased 100 4x DVD-R discs from meritline for $58 (+tax&SH). They work fine in both my xbox and PS2. My PC is another story. I have to burn at 2x to read them on a PC. hmmmm... but I didn't buy them for anything other than Xbox/PS2 use so I'm happy.

Meritline.com is generally inept and grossly indifferent to customer satisfaction so be sure you know exactly what you're ordering before you buy. Apparenly they're big on bait-and-switch, too: offering Ritek G04 and shipping something else. In my case offering "digital matrix" and shipping something with an entirely different "media code block" than the single DVDs I ordered to test. But they work so I'm over it for now.

While I don't doubt anyone's story who has actually used them, my experience with Matrix-R's has been great.

I received 25 of them with my Pioneer A06. I was leery of them too because of their cheep price, but they worked great and I ordered another 50. Again, no problems what so ever. 2 weeks ago I ordered another 50, and had 1 coaster - because of a brownout (power problem). 1 out of 125 is not bad, and then it wasn't the media's fault. My next 100 arrived today.

I've Burnt DVD video, PS2 backups, and DVD data to them, all at 4x. DVD Video plays great in my RCA DVD player (no drops/pixlation), and my PS2 backups are great (no skipping/slow loading).

I'm a classic video game nut, and have even used them to store emulator roms/video (most notably, the laser disc stuff from games like Dragon's Lair) with no problems.

YMMV, but I would at least try a 50 spindle for $35.
