I just hooked my PS3 up with the HDMI cord and when I play games certain parts sound a little static like. For example on Fight Night round 3 whenever I would make a hit it would make a sound as if the speaker might be busted.

On the XMB, go to Settings and then scroll down to the Audio settings.

Select Audio Output settings.

Select HDMI, and then select manual instead of automatic.

Make sure that only these bare essentials are selected:

Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1 kHz
and
Linear PCM 2 Ch. 48 kHz

If anything else is checked, uncheck them.
(Your audio settings may be different due to the speakers on your TV. Just make sure you uncheck everything that you can.)

If this isn't the problem, then you can play around in the manual audio settings and see if anything fixes the problem, just don't go too high into kHz range or it might blow out your speakers.

If nothing there fixes the problem, then you could run analog audio cables (red and white cables. This is the inexpensive option) to your TV from your PS3 and use them as your sound, or get an optical digital cable and hook it up to a receiver with different speakers (the expensive option).
