Hi I'm new here and i've been searching through the threads for answers for a while now but i haven't been getting much luck.

My story is everything was working fine before I left for a 2 week vacation and by the time I got back it couldn't read any discs. My roommate during that time has only played Guitar Hero (original) on my wii but i've played it before and there wasnt any problem. So, frustrated i've updated my wii to the latest firmware with the new mii plaza function.

My problem is that my wii won't read any of my backup games or any of the config, update 1.9s, or recovery (which i understand it's not suppose to). I've tried to recover my wiikey by putting it in, resetting and waiting for the disc to stop. Then on the channel screen waited for 5 mins and turned the power off for a few seconds. I placed my config disc in (both 1.3 and 1.4) and no NGC logo came on. Did it a few dozen times and nothing shows.

I have a wiikey, 3.3U firmware with a 1.9s update and before, my wiikey could play both SSBB and Mario Kart. My Wii still plays original games though.

I've heard that Memorex discs are not good to use for backups but i've been using them for a while and they work fine.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

what type dvd's are you using?
because this happened to my wii also when i used dvd-r's
burning the config disk to a dvd+r and changing the wii's disk read speed from 6x to 3x worked for me.
also, what speed are you burning the disk? that may also affect it

If your backups that you had before you left on vacation aren't working, and you can't recover... then something may have happened to your wii key. You might want to open it up and check the connections.

I still play my wii, just not as much. Gave my PSP to my son.

For the DVD's i'm using memorex dvd-r while burning them with img burn on either 2.4x or 4x

I thought about the wiikey being a problem itself... possibly a loose connection if it was knocked over hard. I'm waiting on getting the tri-screw driver so I can open it up and check it for myself
